Ok, not experienced in using these stupid driveway markers as a core. I've almost have my mace built but it has too much flex, I hate even the slightest flex. So I was wondering if when I glue the two remaining rods to the handle if it will stabalise in any significant sense or if I should start over?

when you bought the driveway markers did you get the ones with the yellow or red stripes or did you get the ones with the reflectors? The one's with the reflectors are too thin and flex too much.

I did a product search on Lowes and saw several fiberglass driveway markers. I think they had two without reflectors. One was orange and was 1.99, the other was 4.99. I think they were both 48". How many do you glue/tape together to make a core?

Also, I noticed walmart had boat seat cushions, about 20" square and 2" or 2 1/2" thick. I imagine that to be marine foam and I heard that was superior foam. Is that kind of foam just for stabby tips and axe head's etc, or is it closed cell? At $7.98 I was thinking of getting one and foaming up my other fencing buckler.

you just need two to glue together...and kurn usually uses the excess he cuts off ass a handle....
I wish we were able to go to practice on saturday...cuz kurn could tell you exactly how to build them right...

yep, you should glue them together..it also helps to reinforce them with duck tape strips (like 1 or 2 inches wide) spaced out every few inches. you can do the duck tape after the glue has dried...Kurn usually uses jb weld to hold them together..it works rather well...

I have actually upgraded to liquid nails, it dries faster than overnight and when combined with a full length tape job..holds pretty well.
Sunshine,
I'm assuming you have already built your weapon. If you put the handle on long, i.e. from handle tip to where your mace head starts, that should cut down on flex tremendously. I would suggest however, in the future, to either look me up and I can give you some of the 3/8" fiberglass rod, or to simply use golf club shafts. The golf club shafts are graphite: strong and durable with no flex.
You could also try here for fiberglass http://kencove.com/fence/Fiberglass+Posts_detail_F58.php

I hope this helps.

For everyone, I am hoping to have another weapons build day after Rag sometime. Probably towards the end of July.

Konrad,
I would not use the life vests things from Walmart. Most of the time it is marine foam however, it is usually several stacked pieces which are way too thin for anything. If you want to go high tech and get some I believe that McMaster Carr or Foam by mail may sell it. I have no idea what it's actual name is.

Oh yea, also DO NOT use the boat cussion idea. I bought one and it works its just a shoddy foam. Not as dense as camp foam, it will break down easier.
