I need to loose weight. My lower back has been stiff and my siatic nerve feels pinched. I feel like someone can make balloon animals with my gut!. My wife told me to weigh myself and I weigh more than I ever have before. Broke the 200 mark, I am 202! My doctor keeps telling me to get down to 170 but I always hover around 189 to 196 until today!

Ewww, the R word! How did I know you were going to say that Smithy. Couldn't it just be the N words, y'know, No Chips, No Soda, No this or that. I guess it will be the Airborne shuffle around the baseball fields. Or I can throw some weights in a bag and do the duffelbag drag! Very Happy

You don't have to give it up completely.
Everything in moderation.

And then work it off.

Have maybe one cupcake. Without frosting. And then go run around the block and do a few sit ups. :]

I know I probably shouldn't be saying much. I've put on a few pounds in the last few months.
But I was thinner once. xD

Actually, it may sound silly, but try some Pilates or Pi-yo.
You get a really, really good workout without running and with a low risk of hurting yourself.

I am a very large guy. I was 355 Pounds about 7 mounts ago. I know weigh 290, and I did not have to exerciser all that much. The trick is not to eat anything white at all. so bread, rice, pasta and so on. the carbohydrates in it converts into sugar in your body. You can still eat whole wheat breads, and pasta and brown rice.

NOTE: I saw some people says to start running more. if your are over weight DO NOT RUN. it is really bad for your joints. also walking a mile burns the same amount of fat as running a mile.

There is no "secret trick" to losing weight. But it is very simple.
There are four main things to focus on. Due note each one is totally interconnected with another.
You can't focus on one with out naturally working on the others at the same time.

1. Calories used vs Calorie intake.
2. State of Metabolism every day.
3. Balanced Diet.
4. Low Stress.

Lets start with first topic shall we.
The body is not a hard machine to figure out when it comes to calorie intake. It will store any calories that are not used or speedily processed. speedily processed? Example: Don't sleep and eat. Even if you eat a lower amount of caloires then you burn, any food that is processed during sleep will turn into fat. As most of the time you only eat before bed in survival conditions to stay warm and keep your stored fat high; it is not adequate or needed for "modern" living conditions. However the gene is still there... no eating 3 hours before bed. Including snacks.

However eating too little isn't the best answer either. You need to eat according to your activity level. Starve yourself and you put stress on your body and metabolism. Thus making your body think "Oh crap emergency store every spare calorie." This is what I like calling Famine mode. Razz

Two.
Humans need to do two things each day when it come to shedding excess fat. Notice I didn't say losing weight. Muscle will weigh MORE then fat ever will. The more you exercise ala "moveing around" the more muscle you build and tone to do said movements. Dag is exercise. Walking around an amusement park is exercise. Running from the cops is exercise... you get the point. Like a car your metabolism needs fuel and a jump start after rest.

When we sleep at night our body goes into its repair mode. All of that days effort gets processed as toxins and chemicals that are stored for departure later. (ever wonder why you always need to pee when you wake up in the morning?) During this 7-8 hours repair time your body is fasting. Breakfast literally means Breaking the Fast. It is one of most important meal of the day.... but do note it depends on how you eat it.

Starting your day with exercise is an amazing jump start to your metabolism. The faster you get your metabolism running the faster you start burning calories. Cardio is probably the best most non-invasive ways of achieving this. Get your heart pumping with an 10-40 minute cardio burn. How you do it is up to you however you want to have a sustained "racing" heart rate for a minimal of 5 minutes. If you the five minutes is broken up into 10 30 secound bursts that works just as well. Remember if you feel like your going to explode, calm down a little and lower the intensity. You only need to take your body out of its "comfort zone". Not kill yourself. Eating after exercise is where your body shines. When your metabolism is sped up from the cardio/work out your food will be processed more efficiently. Meaning eating your 750+ calorie breakfast will start to be used ASAP compared to if you simply woke up and started eating. Primeval man had to hunt for his breakfast remember that.

"But I can't work out in the morning I get nauseous."
You have two options here. You can eat your breakfast before you work out and risk puking or...
If you can't work out on an empty stomach each some apple sauce or something small but light. It'll help with exercise queasiness.

Next up Diet. What a misunderstood thing.
Diet is NOT a term to signify a "special plan." A diet is whatever your food intake consists of. period. When people go on diets what it means is they are "changing" their diet. There are good and bad things about that.

Diet needs to be balanced. Most preplanned diets out there are not and never will be. They starve the body of one thing or another to get temporary results thus making the person spend more money on the product. Problem is after a small amount of time your body adapts and reverts.

The "no carbs" diet for example only really works because people generally eat TOO MUCH breads and complex carbs. I will tell you now you body needs carbs. If surger is the ignition spark of your body, carbs is the over all fuel.

Also remember you body needs nutrients before calories. We as Americans rarely get our daily supply of anything and "one a day" vita tabs are vastly inefficient. (One a day vita tabs are not processed fully, even if you crush them up. Plus they only add "some" not all.) If your over weight you naturally have spare calories meaning you don't have to intake large amounts to force burn. Just enough to keep the engine running. Problem is is getting the extra bits that make a body good. Sunlight will help with several naturally made vitamins, D's and some B's. Everything else has to come from an outside source. Balance is the key. Leafy greens, fiberous fruit and veggies can give you massive sources of vitamins without in taking large amounts. Had the doctor told you that you need to up your iron levels? Cook in a cast iron skillet. . . What you think I'm joking?

Point is you can't cut out all your complex carbs, fats, or sugars because you body needs them to run.
(fruit surgar is harder to process then candy surgar however Fruit surgar is of a higher concentrate then candy.) Am I being vague? YES! Because if people take time to learn their own info they are more likely to use it.

Finally the MOST important... Stress.

Stress on the body emotionally or physically controls how our body reacts and adapts. Too much stress and it panics and starts storing calories for a bad winter. Too little and the metabolism slows down to the point of being lethargic. Just like the food in a diet you need Balance. Ever have a day where all you did was sit on a couch. Bet you $20 you were tired all day and felt like hell afterwards. Too little stress and your body refuses to function properly. Ever panic or have something bad happen and you notice you gained 3-10 lbs over night almost? Same thing. Too much extreme. The stress on our body and how we control it helps out system to work more efficiently.

Random tips for random effectiveness.
-Don't keep the same routine all the time. If your body adapts to it, exercise won't matter.
-To help keep metabolism and appetite under control try eating 10-12oz of food every 2 hours after breakfast. You'll want more but your body will always be using what you eat.
-Cardio is the key to metabolic control. Doesn't have to be life killing. Enough to get your heart rate going and help for short bursts of time.
-MM weighs more then fat. If you do heavy weight training don't expect to lose weight. Expect to change shape. (MM is a medical term for Muscle) Also know that the more muscle you have the more calories you burn to make that muscle move.

I'll edit this and fix typos and bad wording at a later time. Its 4:35 am now....
