Hi, Just thought I would a) into myself to you lords n ladies, and b) try to find out a bit more...

I am fairly new to the USA (here for work for 3 years) and have never seen anything Shocked like this in England... It sounds fun (possibly painful tho) and its in costume so it may be just what I am looking for over here to help me meet and make new friends. I love reading books (mainly things like Terry Goodkind, Terry Pratchett and Anne McCaffrey) and love medieval fantasy so the idea of getting to dress up in costume (after making it - oh I am learning how to do dressmaking, particularly costuming but don't want to make stuff that wont be used so this is great for me - I can make and wear my own dresses/tunics/leggings etc... Plus help out others if they need a hand... But be warned - I am still learning..) but I will admit that the idea of getting hacked to death (my skills in fighting are sub zero...) is a tad daunting.

So, onto my questions. I did read the rules and descriptions of it all... But I am sadly dyslexic and a lot of it went in one eye and out my ears. I was wondering if you would be happy for me to come along and see what you guys get up to and where I would fit in to your chapter... Also - do you guys barter as I don't know how good I would be at making weapons, but I am willing to exchange my sewing skills in return for assistance in design/manufacture.

Lots in one message I know, but form what I have seen of your message boards, you are the kinda people I would love to meet here in Vegas to have good times and fun...

Hope to see you soon. Very Happy

Welcome! Sounds like you are off to a great start since you already have basic knowledge of sewing and creating what we call "garb". You'll have a lot of fun with the group. I met all the friends I have now out here in Vegas from this sport/hobby. Smile

Hey - thanks for the warm welcome! I am off work this saturday so should be able to come out to the park (which one and where is it...? Still figuring out LV...) and meet you guys.
I dont think my current sewing skills 'garb' would fit in here (all very 50s but the basics are there for changing the styles to more medieval stuff) yet but give me time and a few alterations and I may have something suitable for public consumption.
Oh - talking of garb - what do you guys wear to practice? I have to cover up/stay in the shade as I sadly burn in England on a day where I dont see the sun... Rolling Eyes

With Summer upon us, its very sunny and hot most days. There is some shade at the park, but not a lot. You might want to wear some 'Middle East' type garb. Loose, baggy linen trousers and tunics.

We are at Desert Breeze park. Our specific location is off the parking lot just before the dog parks and the basketball courts. roughly the corner of Twain and Durango.

Middle East garb, if done correctly, will leave you with multiple thin layers of light linen. Sleeves and legs can be covered at that point, but the lightness for the material will help you from becoming over-heated in the desert sun. Also, as linen is a very breathable fabric, it will help you keep cool even with the lightest of breezes.

And, as the styles of the Middle East has not changed much over the past one thousand years, getting period correct garb will be supper easy. I love you

Just my two cents.

All of you in fact! I was on the money when I walked up saying I was looking for a bunch of crazy people!!! lol
Luckily I am off work this saturday so I should be able to make it down the park again - but I might just bring a hat and more water... Oh - If I get my sewing ass in gear I might even have a new (and more suitable) tunic to wear to help cover up from the sun... Me and my poor skin caught it yesterday... I think I may bring my F50 too - I got burnt on my arms as well as my face Sad
Oh well - live n learn...
See you saturday dressed as... ummm... farao queen jocolor geek rendeer flower ... ummm scratch gonna have to study for a char.... lol!
