PostSubject: The Royal Army.   The Royal Army. I_icon_minitimeFri Sep 25, 2009 4:27 pm

Surt has told me what he expects starting the first day of his return and I was going to discuss it on Saturday, but first I thought I'd put it in writing here, since I write better than I speak. This will give people a chance to know who may not show up for this Saturday's practice, and will give Surt a chance to correct me should I get something amiss.

The resurrection of the Royal Army is to begin immediately.

I believe several of you were already initiates before the meltdown of Summer began. I will take a lists of names of those who were pledged to someone already and send them on to Surt.

He intends to train as many as he can right away. Those he does not choose to train will be trained in turn, if not by him, then by those he trains in the first round. Be patient.

His ideals for the Royal Army require physical fitness and he intends to pursue arduous physical training as well as martial training. You must be prepared, mentally and physically, to accept that challenge. To that end, he intends to create a seperate training period, either midweek or whereever it will fit, to train the Royal Army. This training will be just that, TRAINING, and only for the Royal Army. Saturday's practice will remain as it is, a little practice, alot of battle games for fun and to test your new skills.

Surt's vision of the Royal Army is based on Courage, Discapline and Controlled Violence. He see's the Royal Army as not a stand off and strike type of force. We will not march to within sword distance of an opposing line and duel with them. The Royal Army is to be trained to charge headlong into that line, break it up, throw the opponants to the ground and kill them. This requires physical fitness, alertness, fine tuned weapon's skills, and aggressiveness. Shield Bashing, Shield Kicking and grappling will be stressed as well as individual weapon skills. If only one army is left standing on the field, it will be the Royal Army of Barad'dun.

Anyone who does not wish to join the Royal Army, is always welcome at our Saturday practices as Mercenaries of the Realm. You will not recieve the specialized training that the Royal Army does, but that does not mean you won't learn some of the skills second hand. It is encouraged for mercenaries to join together for their own training sessions and bring what they learn to Saturday's practices. If you just enjoy showing up at practice for the fighting games, that is fine. But if you want to get better as a fighter, you need to train on other days. If you want to fight better as a team, you need to form a team you can be part of and train with it.

Those of you wishing to join the Royal Army must read and understand the Codex of Barad'Dun. Initiates must be ready and possess the requirements for joining. Those requirements are as follows:

1. Own and maintain at least one set of 'Minimal' garb.
2. One should, but is not required yet, own one weapon of basic construction. (Flails not allowed at this rank.)
3. One should have an outline of some sorts of the Character they wish to portray.

These are the requirements you must meet in order to be inducted by a benefactor (In this case, Surt) and be trained. At anytime, for any just cause, the benefactor may 'fail' you and strip you of your initiate status.

Upon acceptance of the status of 'Iniate' you may then wear the initiate rank sash.

For those of you not wanting to join the Royal army, you can always practice with us on Saturday's. You are considered 'mercenaries' in the Realm of Barad'dun and will receive a mercenary sash in due time. There is no need, nor pressure, to join the Royal Army. The Royal Army is a unit, and some realm's have several units.

To that end, those of you not interested in joining the Royal Army, could look to eachother and form your own units. Dagorhir has a page on forming units. I have a copy in the binder I always bring to practice. The minimum you need to know is you need a minimum of 5 members to form a unit and I believe 4 must be active at the majority of the realm's practices and events.

Many of you have come into our group and then brought friends or family to come and fight too. Why not form a unit with them or other like minded individual's you have met in our group.

You can make the unit as complex a creation or as symple a creation as you wish. You will all receive mercenary sashes which you must wear during realm practice, but you can make your own shields, weapons, garb and banners to reflect your own unit's style. You can make ranks if you wish or even design your own unit sash to be worn along with the Realm's sash you will be given.

If you form your own unit, you can't join the Royal Army, but you wouldn't be forming your own unit if you wanted to join the Royal Army in the first place. Units should have a training time for themselves and practice together. At Saturday practice it would be easier to form teams if we had units we can divide up as a whole.

In this realm we have something that may be rare in other realms, and that is alot of female particpants. You ladies could form your own unit! An Amazon Guard or something. You can specialize you can be an Archery unit. Form, then chip in to garb and buy bow's and Arrows. You wouldn't be a unit that would be thrown into the front ranks as a shield wall. You would support your side with arrow volleys. Its a thought.

Romeo and his cousins could form a unit of Filipino rangers or Knights of Pinoy or something like that.

Many possibilities. We hope all that wish to join the Royal Army will do so and succeed in the ranks, but those who don't can always opt for their own creations to fight along side it.

Just some thoughts to throw out there.

Hey Konradr and Surt

I actually talked a bit w/ Demi about the resurrection of the Royal Army and whether or not we should join. After looking over the Royal Codex (yes I actually read it top to bottom lol) and looking through all of the tests, I have to say that I would absolutely LOVE to try and join the Royal Army. To become a part of something so grand and to represent our land that is Bara'Dun would not only be an honor but would also sound like a lot of fun.

I know that I have not been as active as most members (mostly from work and weddings) but I can say that thankfully from my new job I will always have sat-sun off. As for the off-time practices which Surt talked about, as long as it is before 3:30 then I am down for it.

Hopefully by the time Surt does make his graceful return back to our lands I will have the minimal set of garb and hopefully a weapon. I need to ask Konradr if you can send me the schematics for that huge axe. I'll also need the how to for a standard buckler and a dagger (I heard dagger's don't take long to make, so if any case i'll always have that as a standard weapon if I can't finish the axe by the time Surt comes back).

For the character bio and such, could someone provide a good example so that all us newcomers can start out our bios and know what we are doing lol

I'll be joining after I get my first kit together, my garb, blah blah and have some other training under my belt since I'm practicing. *eyeshift*

I've read the Codex top to bottom, three times now.

p.s. If no one else posts a bio. I'll post you a full bio if no one has objections. I've done them for three years.

Konrad -

I just reread your note on female archers. Blah. While everyone else can do that, I'm not for the archer field unless I'm feeling ornery. I'm taking your offer to assist in me in training before actual practice starts. I don't like that far away. I can be there anytime. I'll see what time I'll be picking up work on Saturday mornings this next month and make that one as early as possible so I can get to practice right afterward. I'm a swordswoman, born and bred and somehow I'll use my wit to be able to win a dagger fight eventually too....Heh.

Anyway..*struts off to watch more training videos*...
