| We usually don't throw Javelins at heads, more often than not we throw for legs and below the shoulder.
As for that shield, it wouldn't be legal on our field if it was not covered in foam. If you wanted one with that style of shield you can make one out of foam but it would not be the most effective shield because of the holes in the side, and narrow shoulder area.
You'd probably like a kite/heater shield, with elven designs on it. | |

| I tagged someone in the head today. The head is a valid target and if someone has a huge shield, it is the only target available. If your mom has a problem with you taking head shots from Javelin's, you can ask Taco how much it would cost for a Strongly padded leather helmet. Or you can wear a football or hockey helmet for safety concerns. We will not change the rules or how we play to accomodate your mother's concerns. If she is worried about it you may have to quit playing.
Asking us not to throw jav's towards your head is not fair to the rest of us playing the game. When you are old enough to go to events you will have to follow the rules, or not play the game.

| Because you are underage, your parents concerns are a serious matter to us. Nothing personal. She calls the shots as far as you being able to play or not.

| The shield without holes, and with less of a point would be a Kite Shield. Or you could make the Baotian shield with a long bottom coming to a rounded point. Konradr | |

| Isk from An tir Dearg, can bring up a Foam Round shield if you want one. He has one 30" blank for $20 and 4 28" blanks for $20 each. He wants to know if anyone wants one and he will bring them down.

| The shield is like the one Achilles used, yes.
You are not causing any crap. I'm just telling you its not fair to everyone for your mom to insist that we take it easy on you and bend the rules because you're a little kid. This game is fun as it is but it can be hard on you sometimes, young or old. Tell mom if she wants her little boy to grow to be strong man who can take care of himself and his family, to let him learn to play hard now. We're not trying to hurt anyone, but the game is the game and we all play it as its written though sometimes their might be differences in opinion.
When you're 18 you'll be able to play as hard as you want Hirgon. I watched you a couple of times today and you fight pretty good. Keep it up. I wear a leather mask because I don't like Arrows and jav's to the face.

| Come up to me at practice and tell me you would like to be a War Wolf. I will take it up with the other War Wolves and we will vote on it. If we don't know you that well, I will tell you we need more time to evaluate your character. It is important to the War Wolves that we accept only fighters who won't act with dishonor or like A-holes on the field. If you are respectful to the realm leaders, respectful to your fellow fighters, don't loose your temper, you are what we like.
If the other War wolves feel they know you well enough to vote 'Aye' then we tell you that you are a 'probationary War Wolf'. This lasts for 30 days. We will obsearve you and teach you things and evaluate you. At the end of the 30 days we will take another vote and if it is still "Aye". Then you are a War Wolf. We will give you a belt sash and a Wolf Claw and have you sign the War Wolf Oath in blood. =) Bosma became a War Wolf today. Wolf has asked to join as well.
The war wolves don't have any other expectations than that. You don't have to do anything but get basic garb, and have at least one weapon. You are welcome to use any other War Wolf gear. You should make a war wolf tabard or we will help you make one. Fight with Honor at all times, don't act like an A-hole and don't loose your temper. Never, ever run away from a fight and always support other War Wolves. We are a Norse Brotherhood. We vote on most things. We are all crewman on the Longship "Raven's Wind". We are all, absolutely loyal to the Realm of Barad'Dun.
You can fight in any style you want, but you must also be proficient with the spear and axe.
We act as the Support line for the Royal Army when fighting against foreign realms like next Saturday. If they want spearmen, that is us. If they want anything else, we will do it to the best of our abilities.
We don't stress attendance or garb but you must meet the basics. We have ranks but they are only for personal accomplishments. You don't have to do anything but show up and have fun. Everything else is your choice.
I am the shipmaster of the Raven's Wind and leader of the War Wolves. Oddvar the terrible is the pack leader (2nd in command). If you want to talk to someone and we are not around, talk to Templar who is the Helmsman or Izzy and Convel who are Seamen.
The ship needs Oarsmen. Especially if we are going to make those long sea voyages to neighboring Realms to increase the coffers of the Realm. =)

| You don't 'need' to be good at anything. You need to have fun doing it. We stress spears because we offer ourselves as support to the Royal Army. You must simply learn to use it as good as you can. Strive for the best, but if you can't be the best, at least have fun doing it. If you want to be a serious badass, the Royal Army and the Black Lions are alot more serious about the fighting and their units than we are. We are about having fun and being competitive and fighting for eachother and the Realm.

| No. Belts can be made from a variety of materials. But. . . Please try to stay with period materials. Using something like a tactical harness detracts from the look of the time period. Many of the belts you can get for a cheap price will look okay. Just try to keep in mind and shy away from things like wide nylon braided belts or other modern styles. If the question is one of function then you should use a little dicretion. A tactical quick release shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not too prominent. I have a belt made from braided fabrics that I simply tie on. On one of my leather belts I have (somewhere) a quick release for a side arm weapon. Just ask yourself this, "Could this have been worn back then?" If not and you would still like to implement it ask, "How can I hide it and wear it?" Hope that helps | |
