Honestly, I don't know if a bow will be any good with a crack in it. Better take it to an archery shop. They tell you if its any good and can get or order a string for you.

It must have a 35lb or less draw weight. If its a more powerful bow you won't be able to use it. Make sure the Archery guys check the poundage and tell you what it is.

I bought my bow at Pacific archery for $25. It was a rental. They were selling off their older rentals. It is a 35lb bow. Pacific Archery is on Schiff (?) one block over from Spring Mountain road in the heart of chinatown.

One thing to add to that is to make sure that the bow pulls no more than 35# at a 28" draw. Some bows, especially horse bows, will reach their rated poundage at a shorter draw, typically 25-26" and would likely fail when tested at 28".

If it's 40# at 32", and 35# at 28" then it's okay.

Take the bow in to see if it is serviceable. If it is, then have them check the draw weight. They can also fully explain the terminology.
