- Hello, I have just recently come across Dagorhir, And I would really enjoy going to an event this weekend. I have many questions that follow:
Is there a way of founding out how many guests will be using loaner weapons and armor. So that I can insure I get a chance to try it out before I go all out on it?
Is there a cost to do this as a regular hobby?
Is there mandatory meetings?
Is there a specific technique I have to use? (I have been quarterstaff training and spear training since I was 5, so all my technique is self taught)
Do I have to stay the whole five hours on Saturdays if I participate regularly?
Do I have to have a specific garb type to join a group/clan? eg. Same color, same armor type, a specific crest on my tabbard.
Is there a specific blueprint I have to follow when making my own equipment?
That is all the questions I have for now, I will post more as they come to me.
Thank you for your time and assistance. (:
Hi Cacelius! Glad to have you on board!
"Is there a way of founding out how many guests will be using loaner weapons and armor. So that I can insure I get a chance to try it out before I go all out on it?"
We have tons of stuff. Tons. It's very unlikely that we won't have something for you. I have 8-9 swords and two polearms just lying around, and 3 shields. Others have way more than me.
"Is there a cost to do this as a regular hobby?"
Yes and no. It costs nothing to come out and fight with us. However, if you want your own weapons, you will be investing in either A. materials so you can build your own, or B. paying someone to build you stuff. You can also check out some awesome sites like Foam-Fighting.com. They sell really awesome swords made by an expert foamsmith. Also, Dagorhir requires that you wear medieval-looking garb. You can create an ensemble for as low as 10 dollars.
"Is there mandatory meetings?"
No
"Is there a specific technique I have to use? (I have been quarterstaff training and spear training since I was 5, so all my technique is self taught) "
Any technique can be used, as long as it's not overly dangerous and you don't hit people in the head.
"Do I have to stay the whole five hours on Saturdays if I participate regularly?"
No, you can leave whenever you want.
"Do I have to have a specific garb type to join a group/clan? eg. Same color, same armor type, a specific crest on my tabbard."
Not really, but it depends on the group/clan. The three main groups here, Black Lions, War Wolves, and Royal Army all have their own preferred colors, but in each unit you are free to experiment with things as you wish. The Black Lion Tabard, for example, is completely optional.
"Is there a specific blueprint I have to follow when making my own equipment?"
As long as your weapon meets the Dagorhir Manual of Arms, is safe, and passes weapons check. There are some very tried-and-true methods to building weapons out there, however, and it would be a good idea to try them out first.
