PostSubject: Túrin Turambar   Túrin Turambar I_icon_minitimeThu Oct 15, 2009 11:07 pm

Seeing as i did some reading and found that the name i chose 4 my character, Túrin, was actually the hero in the book Children of Húrin and the very man that defeated Morgoth based in the First Age, i decided that im going to revise some of my characters story to connect with the actual Lord of the Rings Lore.

from what i have read, b4 Tolkien had died, he had some idea laid out for Túrin to supposedly be brought back from the dead to slay Ancalagon... since this theory conflicted with a couple major details, one being Ancalagon's original slayer being Eärendil (Elrond's father).

Ive decided to make my character the reincarnation of Túrin. Not necessarily Túrin himself but a warrior coincidentally named Túrin who is of Numenorean decent. Also im gonna change the name of the "rogue Numenoreans" that he leads to a unit of military elite called the Gaurwaith (named after a small band of outlaws Túrin Turambar joins and ultimately becomes leader of). my character names his unit this after later understanding of his decedent Túrin Turambar.

tell me wat u think or any input u might have...

btw i made this all up bcuz work just gets that boring Razz

i made a rule that you couldn't make your character any character from the stories. so while i don't mind if u have the name turin you wouldn't be able to be turin turumbar. i encourage you to use the name if you like it but i would also encourage you to create your own unique story to our world.

also you can't be anything like, maiar, balrogs, gods, giant spiders, ents, other mystical creatures, etc, etc.

also i have children of hurin if you want to borrow it. king

When I joined the realm, I decided to read the LOTR series, plus the hobbit. (Actually I listened to the Audio books while at work) and though good reads. (I especially like the Hobbit) it didn't all sink in like it did for you guys. I tried to listen to the simarillion and , honestly, I got bored.

I liked the Conan stories. I read several of those books when I was younger.

I read the Hobbit, then Lord of the Rings, I find Tolkien to be very long winded and quite boring at times. One of my OCD's won't allow me to skip pages and get away from the boring slow times in the books. It took me more than a year to read those four books. My best friend told me that he used to read that whole series once a year. Sorry to you hard core fans, but once in a life time was enough. I am not writing this to flame anyone. I personally found that Tolkien was to detail heavy. In the Hobbit, very beginning when Gandalf goes to Bilbo's house to get him to be a thief on a grand adventure. Tolkien took two to four pages to describe Gandalf, his pointy hat, and Bilbo's round wooden door to the readers. I like to fill in some of the smaller blanks or details myself and not to be force fed a strict diagram of the details. Overall I did like the stories, but will never waste the time to read them again.

i agree that tolkien can go to far on certain areas of the story, but its the over all story i love so much, the lore, and the history of arda.
