Hey guys, when I found there was an active Dag group so close I just wanted to drop you a line from Southern Utah. I wanted to invite you guys up to spar and bring some of my guys down to go a few rounds with you as well. More fighting is good!

A little background about me and the group: I fought Dag from 1992-96 and then did WMA and grad school until Feb when I decided to start up a group in St. George so I could get back into this crazy fast game. My old group (up in Provo) had ended up on the Bel side after the split (that whole nonsense is the stupidest things I ever heard of, BTW) so we started in the Bel direction down here. However, I have no strong preference either way between the two groups and we are still trying to decide on the best way to get the most fighting in. We meet every Wednesday at 7pm and have had really good response from the young uns (16-20). Our practices have been up to 30-40 out to practice every week for the last 1 1/2 months and most of our players have their own weapons. Garb hasn't been a priority for local practices, yet, but we'll get there.

Anyway, I wanted to say hey, let you know we were just up the street and get the exchange of words and blows started.

Well met!

Sounds good. We're in a little flux right now with summer on us and some of our young un's moving off for various reasons. Our lead officer is away for the summer as well. Our second officer, the one with the most Dag expierience looks to be leaving soon after their return from Rag and our third officer might be leaving at the end of summer. That being said, we usually average 20 + the majority are young-uns. It's us older folk that might not mind doing some traveling. We're all new to dag and some of the guys have traveled to Aggelgorod.

What's the temperature like in St. George? We practice on Saturday's, every Saturday at 12pm. Hot as heck, little shade. Lot's of water breaks. The best time for travel, both ways, might be in the cooler months.

Thanks for the invite and I think it would be well worth our while to take you up on it; however, it would have to be a Saturday. Like when the lads go to Aggelgorod they leave early in the morning to arrive at around 11am. Aggelgorod practices on Saturday's at 12pm as well. So they fight til around 6pm I believe then head home. I would think a similar time frame would be good for St. George or for you coming to Barad'dun. Just give us a head's up so we can push for as many of our guys as possible to make it.

Sorry to hear things are so chaotic. I read a little on your forums about what is going on and I sympathize with the lost jobs and hope they find something soon. On a lighter note, I didn't make it to Rag, but everyone who did seems to have had the time of their life.

We'll be glad to come on over for a Saturday practice and spar with you guys. I am trying to get as many of us up to Chaos Wars as I can, so we'd wait till the 4th week in July or so. I would also love to make it over to Aggelgorod one of these times to meet those guys. I particularly want to meet some of the kutriguri guys as I am fascinated with and have studied steppe cultures.

As far as coming here goes, we are only about 1.5 hours up I-15 (depending on where you are in Vegas, of course) so the drive isn't too bad and the park is close to the freeway. We frequently have some of the more experienced fighters from Cedar City down as well. We would be happy to host a Saturday mini-event or something, but the heat is only a little less down here so maybe a little later on. The heat's a big part of why we meet Wednesday nights from 7-11pm.

Fortunately we have some of our older guys willing to step up to the plate, I believe, so Barad'dun will continue no matter what. We were talking about a possible trip to Aggelgorod, I don't see why we can't make one or two to you guys as well. A mini event would be cool. I would definately say by the end of summer when things cool down and our King returns, that sounds great.

We heard from Surt, our King, that Rag was awesome. We eagerly await our other members return to hear their war stories and hopefully view pics.

Perhaps some of our guys would like to travel on their own for a wednesday night practice up in St. George. I personally work evenings monday through friday.

My historical bent is Norse, classical Greek, Roman but I also like the Thracians and the Steppe's own Scythian's. My older son wants to be a hobbit, so Dag kind fits.

I am kind of curious what the split was that formed a seperate Dagorhir and Belegarth. The rules don't seem any different. Much the same as The ECS (empire of chivalry and steel) split from the SCA (Society for creative anachronism)

Aw well, it is noon and I should be getting ready for work. Again I say, Well met, and hope to cross foam with you soon.

I think the split is dumb and the best way to overcome it is to cross game with dag and bel fighters as often as possible!

Anyway, look forward to crossing swords with you guys soon.

We meet in Nisson Park, just off the Green Springs Dr exit (formerly the Washington Exit). Here's a google map. I have talked with a guy named Calder who is trying to start a Dag group in SLC. You should be able to find him on the Dag (in this thread) or the Bel board (you can PM him on the Bel board).

Our current/temporary website is: http://sites.google.com/site/antirdearg

We have been talking and a few of my guys and I will probably come over the last weekend in July or the first in August. They think you guys are insane to practice at noon, though. Smile

That is insane, I am going to start pushing for earlier starts because of the extreme heat.
