I guess it happens more to new fighters than oldies, but I'm really torn between weapon ideas right now. Part of me tells me I should build a shield to use with my mace, another part tells me I should buy a bandshoppe pole and make a nifty glaive, and another part tells me I should go skirmisher florentine... and another part says go Archer/Florentine side arms D=

How do you choose Mad

I make one of each and then throw the lot on the ground. Now I have let everyone else make that decision for me and as I was willing to use any of them I score twice. 1. I use a weapon randomly chosen for me, 2. I now have several opponents using equipment that I need to learn how to fight against.

My biggest vice in fighting is fighting against anyone with a shield, which is... 75% of the battlefield.

Which is probably why I either:

A) Want something that can break a shield.
B) Want something that can snipe people with shields.
C) Want to fight fire with fire.

ROFL I have actually thought about going archery with 2 side arms and a buckler strapped to my off arm. >__< I want to be versatile.

There is versatile and then there is stupid.

The problem with that kind of combo is the number of things you are going to strap to your self. 2 Swords, 1 Quiver of 10+ arrows, and a shield. Lots of room for anviling and having things to get in your way. Then comes usage. On the field of many, you may run out of arrows, you may not. But to draw both swords, you will have to drop your bow and that can be dangerous to the bow. Or you may try to draw your sword and find it isn't as fast as you needed it with a bow and a few arrows in hand.

I had a guy long ago who wanted to pack in a large shield, two javs, a sword, and a spear, plus armor. Sounded like a good idea as he would use the spear as long as he had a shield person to hide behind and when the field started thinning, he would drop the spear and go sword and board with a jav or two ready to be tossed. In actuality, he dieing long before the field ever thinned down or he couldn't draw the shield and sword fast enough.

Personally, the most I have ever used was two weapons and a buckler(was a 28" core-less teardrop that was strapped to my upper arm). I was able to use my spear for long periods of time and depending on the amount of people on the field, my second was a dagger or a sword. Large number of people = I use a dagger and keep the spear at all times, small number of people = sword so then I can down spear, draw my sword from my shield side hip, drop the spear and thus I'm ready to sword and board.

Any more than three and you are making a simple situation into a complex equation.

Morlock, how long have you been fighting? Do you do both Bel and Dag (yes, I know, practicly the same game just different attitudes) and how come fugl Brenna has hired you as a Mercenary? Are they short in manpower?

7 years this April
Amt, Darkon, Dag, Bel, (Nero sucks) and a bit of SCA from time to time
I usually merc my self out at any eventat chaos X I was hired by the urki, chaos 11 Andor retained my services (hence how I know Hari) and every fools raid I've been to. This year I opted with fugl (like last year) because I love fighting with those guys. Not because they need me. Razz Though andurial was a close second.

I re-watched some good sword and board videos and think I'll make a good shield and work with the mace Taco is working on, then see where it leads me.

I used to fight with an "Armory" style like that. I had a large strap shield that I could effectively use with a spear. Had a sword strapped in to that and a dagger hidden in the bottom of it. Had another sword in my back hand. If someone managed to get in close while I was spearing, I'd drop it and go sword and board. Then towards the end of the battle, drop the shield and go flourentine as we were cleaning up.

it all depends if you like being support or front line. dual swords and sword and board your going to rely almost solely on yourself. glaive and archery your best chance of survival is to buddy up. i recommend you train with all weapons but if money is an issue for supplies i recomend sword and board because once you know how to fight that style you will know its weaknesses and be able to more easily defeat an opponant with that style. whether your going sowrd and board yourself, florentine, or glaive. sword and board is the most common style so therefore you will befighting it the most.
