New guy :D

Hello everyone!

My name is Josh and I came across your site while looking for LARPERS in Las Vegas I've never done it before but have been interested in it for quite a few years. Do you guys still meet up every Saturday at Desert Breeze around 12pm? And if so, where can I get some weapons/armor? How many people usually show up? Thanks in advance!

My real name is Alyssa. On the field they call me Alacian (Call me whichever you please). I'm a member of the Royal Army (A unit in our realm/group).

Our 'LARP', more-so a sport is based off of Lord of The Rings. Our realm/group is named Barad'Dun. We're a southern continent (We're like Africa). So, there is everything from elves, dwarves, gnomes, orcs, trolls, demons, halflings, pirates, gypsies, desert rangers, and so on. We even dress to our persona's.

Our 'group' realm is 'ran' led by a Tribunal made up of the Shepherd, the Marshal and the King. You'll meet them at practice. Though there are many you can speak with who can assist you with garb, weapons, etc if you choose to stay. For now just come out and see what you think of us.

We meet every Saturday at Desert Breeze off of Twain and Durango. Royal Army practice is 10am till 12pm and from 12pm till 5pm roughly is the entire realm practice. We then head over to Taco Bell to hang out and bs. There's at least twenty people on a good day if not more (we do have more members than that but real life takes prejudice.)

We always have loaner weapons and we can hook you up with those until you get your own gear. Armor is built by our armorsmiths for a price of course. You'd have to chat with Taco or Smithy.

There is also a specific unit practice from 5pm till 10pm roughly every Tuesday evening at the same place. There's roughly eight people on a good day. They're the Black Lions hosted by Sarabi and Taco.

You would have to speak with Sarabi and Taco about whether they bring loaner gear or you are able to use their stuff until you get your own.


Also; this coming weekend will be our practice at Desert Breeze on Saturday and then our Althing (feast, tournaments and rankings) on Sunday at Spring Valley park from 12pm onward.

Dag, like Alacian said, is more of a combat sport then a traditional larp. Role-playing ends at your "character" history. (granted some of the funner players roleplay their character IN Combat. Which is embarrassing when your fooled by a "halfling" yelling watch out for dog poo.)

If your looking for a traditional LARP you'll want to check out NERO Las Vegas, NERO pheonix, and Realm of Conflict. These are you more Roleplaying/improvisational acting games. The combat is light boffer. Meaning its speed and not full swings. Most LARPs meet once a month. Dag is 5 times a month. (1 back to back weekend for "Allthing."

I do them all. So if you want PM me I can give you information to get started with NERO also.

I'll give you a heads up if you choose to do a combat sport like dag AND a traditional larp. You WILL have to train yourself to not get into a set combat routine. Meaning Dag is full contact where NERO isn't. I get called out hitting lite all the time because I did a NERO event the week before. And my swings in Nero tend to be slightly harder then normal till I recalibrate.

Message me and I'll give you the pro's and cons for each. Both Combat sports and LARP are fantastic.
Personally I can't live with out either. And this DAG chapter is one of the better ones.
Oh and from one Larper/Combat person to a newbie. Welcome to the fold. lol

You aren't alone Grek most people who fight in Dag don't have an elaborate character, just a little "history" they made up for fun.

We have loaner gear you can use, like swords and shields, or you can inquire to make your own with some of the veteran advice.

Most definitely! I've been doing tons of research and just keep getting more and more hyped about this Quick question though. Earlier last night I found a guide on how to build weapons for this but haven't been able to find it since. Been looking up youtube videos on the subject and I'm getting a faint idea about how to go about this but some direct input from you would be awesome!

Well if it comes to building weapons I will point you to 2 people on Saturday.

Smithy or Taco, aka the Smiths of Barad'Dun (insert wrench symbol)

Smithy is the Shepherd of the Realm, or Vice-President. (He's usually wearing Sunglasses) Taco is the Head of the Black Lions. (He's the tall one)

I wont be there this week but I can usually point you in the right direction. Dont worry about not having weapons. It takes time.

I think if you hunt through some of the really old posted topics you might find some youtube link's, etc, on building weapons and shields.

The first time I came out, two years ago last march, I brought out my own sword as well. I made it from a youtube video posted by a utah group that fights their own game. The sword was pvc pipe, DAP glue and blue walmart camping foam. That sword, known as 'Orc Slayer', was covered with a long black sock, was big and Fugly, but it served a long time. PVC is a good learning core for your new weapon smithing. It will break eventually. Don't cry over it. Make another one til you've mastered the art and are ready for fiberglass cores which are the cores of choice.

hah i learned how to make a sword off that video before i even got to do my first bit of fighting.

More DAP and Blue Walmart foam and PVC and voila, you can make a shield too.

Not today, but Tuesdays we have Black Lion practice, but we might have to discontinue those or reschedule for Saturdays.

There is rumor of a tourney this Friday but I haven't seen an anouncement

It is a War Wolves tournament only. At Davis Park.

OH my mistake, I thought you guys only met up on saturdays :O It appears there are lots of factions who meet up on different days/times too? Can I get a schedule? xD

Weekly Realm Practice; Every Saturday 12pm-4am (usually)

Black Lion Training (postponed until further notice) 5pm-8pm

Wolves night (monthly?) Fridays

Althing (last sunday of every month) 12pm - 5pm


Weekly practice and BL are held at Dessert breeze park. Wolves night will be held at Davis Park. Althing is held at Spring Valley park, behind the highschool (its on a hill)

Royal Army Practice is @ 10:00am every saturday before practice.

black lion practices are later in the night we've been starting at like 5:00PM cause the football players take up the fields if we don't take them early.. and we stay till we get bored you leave when you want to...

Ok I made the sword from the video then got carried away and made the hammer... the question is, are these weapons legal? :O
