OK... Whilst bored at work over the last two days I was doing some research on Middle Earth...

Does this back story sound plausible? Can you see any major flaws (apart from the fact that Tolkin never actually said the eagles had riders - but then again, he never said they didn't...)?

Prysm Stormrider is a descendant from the fallen city of Gondolin and her family was one of the ones rescued by the Eagles from the orcs. Her family has always stayed near the eagles since and she, like a handful of other elves, became one of the rare eagle riders that aided their task by going places that the eagles could not get. My eagle (need a suitable name - anyone know the Elvish for Stormwing?) and I were on a mission (sorry - I could tell you - but then I would have to kill you...) when we were attacked. Stormwing was gravely hurt but we prevailed - just - and managed to get safely home. Sadly Stormwing was too gravely hurt and his efforts to get me home sapped the last of his strength and he had none left for healing and died. Once he passed I was no longer a rider - and as such became Prysm Stormfallen, a self imposed exile from all I once loved and could no longer be around. I left and travelled as far away from the mountains that housed the others and took to a life of piracy until I found myself a new home and something new and good to fight for and use all the skills I once used as a rider.

Told you I was bored... I even came up with colors to wear... Embarassed

Love it, I'm not a Tolkien buff, so I can't tell you if it's accurate, but I like the direction you took it!

No Elvish word for Storm. But here are a few acceptable alternatives. Depending on what meaning of Storm you were looking for. I love you

Rain: ross (noun)
Overwhelm: taur (adjective)
Do: car- (verb)
Move: rinc (noun)

Wing: 1.) rafn (noun) 2.) roval (noun) literally.... a large wing ... plural: rovail

No, I do not know Elvish. Shocked

Taurovail....

Hows that for an eagle name? Indicating both size and presence...

Sounds Regal to me! A worthy name for a fallen comrade.

(And, you're welcome.)

As stated before there really is no direct translation into elvish.
Based on the info I've been able to dig up as well as the words given below I believe a closer interpretation would be as follows:

"Quettaparma Quenyanna" A more common language.

EAGLE soron, sornë (Þ) (pl. sorni) (So in Etym; Letters:427 has sorno, thorno, LT1:266 also has sor. Soron/sorno obsoletes ea, earen in LT1:251 and LT2:338 – besides, ëa means "is, exists" in Tolkien's later Quenya.) KING OF EAGLES Sorontur, "EAGLE-HORN" (a great height in Númenor) Sorontil –THOR, Letters:427, UT:465 (I found an Elvish reference of "thoron")

STORM raumo (glossed "[noise of a] storm" in MC:223)

RAIN mistë (fine rain), rossë (fine rain, dew, spray), ucco; RAINBOW helyanwë (lit. "sky-bridge"), Ilweran, Ilweranta. (LT2 has iluquinga "sky-bow", but this was obsoleted together with ilu "sky"; see SKY.) –MIZD, ROS cf. Letters:282, GL:74, 3EL, LT1:256, LT2:348

RIDER roquen (horseman, knight) –WJ:372, UT:282 (I found an Elvish reference of "rochon" or "rochben.")

SKY vilya (older [MET] wilya) (air), hellë, ilwë (heavens), telimbo (canopy), taimë, taimië. (LT2:348 gives ilu, but the meaning of this word was later changed – Tolkien decided that Ilúvatar means "All-Father", not "Sky-Father" as he originally thought.) "SKY-BRIDGE" (i.e., rainbow) helyanwë –LotR:1157, 3EL, LT1:255, LT2:348, LT1:268

SKIES fanyarë (upper airs and clouds) –MC:223

WING ráma (Pl. rámar and plural instrumental form rámainen are attested. The form #rámë, occurring in the ship-name Eärrámë "Sea-Wing", evidently has a feminine ending.)

As stated before there really is no direct translation into elvish.
So your occupation as an eagle rider was "thoron rochben."

A better translation for your family name I believe wold be Roquenfanyare' or rider of the skies.

Of course no one in this Realm is that much of a name critic so please feel free to mix and match as you choose. At least your name isn't something like Fourteen or Smithy. God forbid a name like Taco. J/K

Go Smithy, Go Smithy, Go Smithy!!!!!

As another person with a LOTR inspired name, you will always have a nick name.

My actual game name is Varno Anga, which means Protector of Iron in Adunaic (Language of Numenor);

My nick name is Knubbs. Smile
