| I'm going to do a phonebook search and see about "ranch supply/farm supply" places. I know we have some that specialize in feed and stuff.
How long is your driveway marker sword Demie? When you put the 3 layers of foam on, plus the flat, that will add weight. If they are too long, they will flex.
If mine and Demie's swords work out, hey, that's another cheap and doable approach to simple swords, that anyone can do, other than PVC.

| How is the finished weight on Demie's blade? I am probably going to have to make one now; I just can't stand not having tried this approach.
Konradr, you may have better luck using something like dexonline.com or yellowpages.com to identify the farming/ranch/fence/tractor supply stores.

| I triple cored, but that made my 3 layers of foam measure out to 3 1/2 inches or a smudge over that. I would have stopped at 2 layers but it wasn't quite 3 inches. So now I have a slighly heavier sword than envisioned, sort of a broadsword. I tested it for flex but I don't hit as hard as Caretaker, Templar or Taco. It may not pass. My flex test (on my knee) looked to be between 15 and 20 degrees.
Maybe only doubling the core would have kept it lighter and the flex less. But damn if I don't like the feel of the triple core, at least, before adding the foam.

Konradr o.O thats odd I flex-tested Demie's sword last night, and it barely reached 10 degrees, hell maybe 15. The only problem was the handle, which we are gonna get some rope for her by saturday. if you triple cored it, then it should be around that same degree since you have a bit more weight then demie has.

| I think they should work fine. I still have two driveway markers but Romeo wants them to make another sword. I dont' understand why he doesn't just fix the two he has (purple sword and beatstick, both have the 3/8 square fiberglass but are too long and thus flex too much) Oh, yeah, he'd rather make something new and have me fix the old ones. *sigh* do I have the time. I need to get my driver's license renewed. Now they want two forms of ID. Passport or Birth Certificate. As far as I know my passport is expired and I don't have a birth certificate anymore. The stone tablet broke. Konradr | |

| Nice illustration. That's pretty much the way I did it, but with a triple core. Next time I'll make a double core like in the drawing and see how it works. I like the triple core hand grip, I don't need the rope for a good grip, but with the double core, I'll use the rope and grip tape like in your example.

| i also want to add that there is no need to cap these. the duck tape that binds the core on the ends will act as a cap. also with a layer of DS on each later, plus the cloth tape securing it, it isn't going far:D
I was honestly just bored, and figured it'd be good for future reference if anyone wants it.

| My Norse two cents on Double sided tape.
Pros: It works just fine. It's fairly quick and easy to make a sword while watching TV. It doesn't have a strong odor that chokes the room. Less mess, less clean up, a functional weapon.
Cons: It makes the sword heavier and slightly wider, both good if you are worried about making minimum weights and widths, but can proove to be a heavy weapon compared to a simarly cored sword made with DAP.
I think comparing the roll at $4.95 to a can at DAP at $6.00 and I have to wonder if its more cost effective? I understand that Rhino tape in the carpet section is suppose to be lighter and grippier than DS duct tape. However its twice the cost, so I balked at buying the roll when money was an issue. However if it makes a lighter weapon, it might be worth the cost.
There, I said it.
Glad you liked the min red sword Sasquatch, however, facing you with it makes me wish I had a Konradr dedicated Archer right behind me at all times to keep you away.
Konradr and his two cents.
