| I saw one at the last gathering "Border Wars". How did we like it? I would like to make one but I don't know what the realm's thoughts were on passing it. It was marine foam right? | |

| I proablly seen the same one at the first WOR. It hits just like a normal spear to me, nowhere near as bad as Taco's spears(I love you:D). I didn't really see anything unsafe, and it interested me as well. | |

| Maybe I'll strip down the one I got from you and make it into a min spear at weapon's build... Hmmm... | |

| I still don't know what the dag rule is on spear heads. I've asked in another thread and still don't know. Is it 3.5" like the new ruling on Jav heads, 3" for cylindrical weapons or 2.75" the standard for min. spears like the tutorial Arrakis put on both the dag and bel boards????
I know a spear's courtesy padding only has to be 1/3 of the weapon's length. But the head size I'm still not sure on.
I've been wanting to go to the band supply store in N. Las Vegas and buy some 7 foot (or was it 7.5?) bandshoppe poles, but I never have enough money.

| I have no problem with them being small (2.75 inch). Just so long as they meet the safety requirements (1/3 courtesy padding, pommel, and you aren't jamming a hard foam brick through somebody's spine). I will however ask is that there be no bare pole. This is due to the materials (i.e. fiberglass) and slivers, nicks, or cuts and cause injury to yourself or someone else. I know it slides well but think about trying to get rid of glass filaments from your skin or someone elses. One thin layer of tape to cover the area solves that problem in it's entirety. And when you take that weapon to events and they don't care about it being a bare pole? Simply peel the tape off. If you don't have that much tape I will be happy to cover the bare portion for you. Now where are my smokes? | |

| Haha nice. I think the bandshoppe spear I have is covered with tape. Does bandshoppe tend to splinter like fiberglass? I hate handling bare fiberglass. Always manage to get it stuck into my hands somehow or another. D: | |

| People have been using "marine foam" lately for jav heads. I think they are a little too stiff. My last two I think I used marine foam as a a base layer with a cap of open cell foam.
Marine foam you can get a Lowes. Go to the Garden center and find the big blue, 1 inch thick, pads they sell for people to put their knees on. These things are huge, lots of stabby tips in them. They cost $10.00. They are EVA foam.
Open cell that is used for jav's and arrows is harder to come by. Its the charcoal gray or black that they use to pack boxes of things like computer parts, etc. Maybe a dumpster behind eletronic stores. I've seen the stuff at medical places too as they ship equipment, tubes, etc in the same stuff.

| Galaxy foam has the computer packing foam now, but the stuff I got is too stiff I think for my arrow heads. I dunno. I'll bring some to practice and have Smithy and you guys fondle them to see if they are legal. I don't wanna put them on an arrow just yet | |

| Hmmm, well, my new 7 foot spear is not quite the min spear. I didn't follow the tutorial. I had my own idea that I wanted to explore. I wanted a flat sides spear head, so its smaller and lighter than my last spear, but the head is about 4 or 5 inches across instead of 2.75. But I like it. I'm waiting for Romeo to come home from school so I can hit test it to see if its ok. I always ambush him when I have new weapons made.
