I have watched a ton of videos on spear/pole-arm weapon making, and if I decide if this sport is right for me, I would like to make a spear for myself, so I have some questions for the Artisan craftsman. Does the tip of the spear HAVE to have that ball on it? Can I also make a spear have a category blue blade on it as well as green or just only a green stabbing point? I am more of an aggressive spear fighter, could I still use a 6 and a half foot spear effectively in cooperation with a shield wall if I am needed?
Thank you for your assistance and time (:

You need a safe stabbing tip. It can still look cool though:
The guy in the green is using a glaive, and it can both stab and be swung. For swinging purposes, it also counts as red and can break shields. Any weapon can be green, as long as it is built safely and passes for green.
Spearmen are always going to be effective on any shieldwall. They provide range, snipe enemies who aren't watching, and force the enemy to move his shield. A spearman stabbing at feet or sides is forcing shieldmen to move their shields, which allows swordmen to get kills. The opposite is also true.

That is cool, But I am talking about a 1 3/4ths to 2 foot blade. not a whopping slab of foam, it's too weighted for my type of fighting... I like to be light, quick, and agile.

The blade can be however long you want, as long as the shaft of the weapon is safely padded

Okay So would it be classified as a glaive, or would it still count as a spear?

If it can be swung in any way, it would be classified as a glaive. Spears do not have padded blades on them and are stabbing only.

Since it's a glaive I can still be effective as a spear man? and Do I need my blade to be that wide?

Yes, you can definitely be just as effective as a spearman! You can stab away with the option to break shields or swing. Your blade doesn't need to be that wide.

Well then damn, that would make me a force to reckoned with, if I can take a shield out with two good blows and then pull in the kill with the single jab to the chest (:<

Glaives are awesome. Mine is 6ft. I might cut it to 5 though

glaives require 2/3 padding, as it is a swung weapon, spears are stabbing only, so only require 1/3 padding

Oh well then that defeats the idea of a spear.. since 2/3 of 6 is 4, that'll only leave 2 feet of grip. making it difficult to maneuver as spear. I guess I'll just stick to a spear lol. Darn rules crushed my dreams of a dangerous fighter against shields >.<

You can grab haft padding. It's not like it's super cumbersome or huge. Come out tomorrow and check out some of the glaives!
