| Sup guys(and gals?)
I am relatively new to the Area (Air Force) and was looking for something new to try. I've never LARP'ed, or role played for that matter, but from some Youtube video I saw it looks like you have a lot of fun. I don't have any gear or weapons or anything, as of now I'm just kind of lurking around to see what you guys are all about.
Some brief info: I'm 21, USAF enlisted, Interests include firearms/auto racing/computers. I'm kind of shy around new people but the more you get to know me the more likalbe I am (I think?). Anyhow just saying whats up.

| And just so you know, our group focuses a lot more on the fighting than the roleplay. :]
It's a blast! You should come out some time. =]

| Absolutely come out. Having another person I could speak military with would be awesome. (Army Aviaton) R.O.E. for this game are simple and I can't wait to have someone on the field who would understand what the hell I was talking about the first time through. | |

| Be nice when talking about your young 'uns marshall.
Come out and give it a try then talk to your buddies (guys and gals) at Nellis, we'd love you to recruit. I'm sure you would like it. Its like paintball, but in your face instead of long distance. The most roleplay we do is create character names and simple bios. Outside of fighting we use those for storytelling or gameplaying, but on the field, its all medieval foam, full contact, fighting. Do I hear a "Yeah Baby!"

| Thanks for the replies.
Still kind of pondering the idea. I had been looking into something that would be fun and playful. Shooting sports get expensive, and fast. My paycheck can't quite fuel my ammo consumption, and similar activities like paintball and airsoft I never really took a liking too. Honestly the biggest reason that's kind of holding me back if I am not into the whole medieval thing that much(kind of a "wild West" guy myself), but from what it sounds like role-playing is not a huge deal.

| You have to wear minimum garb, that would be like a dark t-shirt with no logo's, no neon, modern colors, rip out the collar for a more medieval look. Then pants or long shorts can be lounge pants, pajama pants, martial arts pants, sweat pants, etc. For your first time out, don't worry about it, just give it a try.
We're not a roleplay group per se, we are a "Combat Sport" more like martial arts. We do one on one fighting, group fighting and fighting games like capture the flag. If you are looking for more of a Role Play type live action game, look up "NERO" or "Amtgard" I don't know about Amtgard but there's a large Nero group here in vegas.
Yeah, I stopped playing paintball with my kids cuz its just too expensive. Shooting .22's out in the desert was always fun but I haven't done that in years. Guns are mothballed.
Like other's have said we usually have extra weapons and shields so all you have to do is come out wanting to try and sign a waiver. Look for Surt, Kilanos or Smithy, or lacking any of them, look for Knubbs, Heretic, Taco, Caretaker, or me, Konradr. Actually everyone in the group is willing to help a newbie.

| Basically some comfy shorts and take an old thermo shirt, tear the sleeves off and you are good to go man. If you decide its not for you or you don't want to go steady with it we aren't going to go knocking down your door to come back (unless you are just THAT awesome). | |

| Well I think it would be pretty fair to at least check it out and see what you guys do.
Now you said you had loaner weapons, that's cool. I was curious in what manner you may have projectile weapons? I see there are lances and bows, but I was curious about crossbows. Do they fit in at all? If so, in what fashion? A crossbow with a low draw weight with modified bolts, or something in the "nerf" realm? IS there a limit on the amount of weapons? Two swords or say a ranged weapon + a sword etc...
Btw Alacian what do you plan to enlist as?

| I'm going to be a UAV Sensor Operator. I should be sworn in by the first week of July. I'm going to see Chief Henderson out at Creech on the 28th of this month. ^_^ | |

Btw Alacian what do you plan to enlist as? Projectile weapons would include crossbows, bows, ballista's, javelins and rocks. There is no limit on how many weapons you can carry on your person. Simply on shields. You can only wield one shield at a time.

| The limit on crossbows make them not very effective from what I've read. Most people use a bow, 35# max, with foam headed arrows. Foam heads for arrows are generally bought from Edhellen armoury, but probably can be made from materials available. Check with the Marshall, he's the chief smithy of two realms ours and the one he helped run in Kuwait. He's also an Archer, as is Kilanos and Phoxly. Javelins are also projectile weapons and easier for the layman to make. There are tutorials available online at the national website which is www.dagorhir.com. However, once you see what you like after giving it a try, then discuss with the Marshall or anyone who has a weapon you like and we can tell you how its made or show you. We also try to get a weapons build day every now and then on a Sunday so everyone can get together and , um, build weapons. Konradr | |

| Sudden thought just occured to me. I'm on vacation for the rest of the week. If you would like I could meet you somewhere (BX perhaps?) so that I can answer any questions you might have and I could show you examples of the weapons, garb, and armor. I've got a clear schedule and I need to make a run out to Nellis anyway. | |

| Yeah, that sounds fine. I'm pretty much on base 24/7, so I don't really care when. I check my email frequently, so maybe you could just throw up a post when you think you might stop by. And the BX seems like a good place. | |

| Projectiles are alot of fun, if its something you think you are interested in we have a loaner bow you can use and some 'loaner arrows' most of us have our own arrows but when they are out on the field any you can grab and fire back are fair game haha.
If you are going to be under anyone's wing for starters I'd recomend Smithy, great guy, can't go wrong there.
