I've got to shinai sitting useless in my shed. I fought my son and nephews with them using fencing masks and simple padded cloth and elbow/knee pads. Anyone ever foam up shinai's for our game???

You can use bamboo cores. But that would be pretty sweet.

Might have to try it just to see what turns out. Shinai have some good flex in them but that's from the four bamboo slats being tensioned by string and leather. Wonder if the foam would ruin that flex. If not, I wouldn't have to use as much foam for it to be safe. The old brain gears are starting to tick...
