I'm old, I just can't get into anime. Does the old school Speed racer count? I liked that as a kid. We had the life action stuff back then, like ultraman, & godzilla. Love godzilla. Hmmm, have to admit, I like the original pokeman too, bought alot of VHS for my kid to watch when I was a single dad. Oh hell, the original transformer's I liked too, and I think some of the thundercats. Was that anime?
I had comic books back in my day, but I liked war series. Sgt. Rock, the haunted tank, 'n stuff like that. Oh and lets not forget Asterix.

I remember bidding on a 'war of the planets' 16mm print on Ebay, but lost. I don't remember that show, but read it up on IMDB. I have an old rickety 16mm film projector and a small collection of films to go with it, but no anime. The closest 16mm I have is "the incredible mr. limpet" ( which recently came out in DVD). I have a couple of small cartoons too.

I love the blind swordsman. I have about 10 VHS videos and I think 2 or 3 DVD's. The Series is now on DVD. Wish I had the money to buy them all. I also have yojimbo. I don't think I ever bought seven samurai, but love that one too.

Here's a clip from the original series in the 60's. Zaitoichi, the blind swordsman, is a gambler and a masseus (?). He travels throughout japan earning his keep by massages and gambling. He fights alot against corrupt people, samurai and yakuza. He fights individual duels as in this clip and against multiple attackers. 95% of most japanese sword strikes are from the overhead, overhand position. Zaitoichi fights from an underhand position with low strikes under the guard of his attackers. His speed and sharp hearing keep him alive.
I remember one movie where the opposition put a bunch of guys on a bridge and rolled up some of the huge ass Taiko drums to beat so that Zaitoichi couldn't hear them move or even breathe. Of course he triumphed in the end, but I thought that was his toughest challenge.
He's had some close run's with Samurai too.

Yeah, that's the remake and I didn't see that one. Back when we had the whole cable thing, I got hooked on Zaitoichi on the International Film Channel. They showed one or two Zaitoichi episodes like on Saturdays. The tapes I have are the movies, but they had a long running TV series with the same guy. On the IFC they had a movie made from TV episodes that I just couldn't find on VHS. Maybe it will come out on DVD.
