- First off I'd like to post the rules on bashing according to the new rules so everyone is on the same page.
4.8 - Shield Bashing and Checking:
4.8.1 - A shield bash means using a shield to strike an opponent starting from a distance more than two steps away. 4.8.2 - A shield check means using a shield to strike an opponent starting from a distance two steps away or closer. 4.8.3 - Players may shield bash an opponent on their front or side. Bashing an opponent from the rear is prohibited. Bashing an opponent who has lost a leg is prohibited. 4.8.4 - Players may shield check an opponent from any direction. Players may shield check opponents who have lost a leg. 4.8.5 - It is never permissible to strike a fighter in the head or neck with a shield
That said, How does one resist or otherwise not get sent flying backwards when someone from the other team smashes into your sheild?
What if the person is smaller than you?
What if the person is around your size?
What if the person is much bigger (or stronger) than you?
What If only one man out of the line charges?
What if the entire line charges? Some answers from the Dagorhirim: - Quote :
- in any situation where i'm taking (or giving) a bash/check i try to brace my shield with as much of my body as possible (arms, shoulders, knees, etc.... NOT HEAD, NEVER HEAD!).... this helps to better absorb the impact... yes, padding your side of the shield makes this more comfy
also, when taking a bash, good footing is essential to transferring the energy of the impact from your body to the ground... this helps prevent take-off
against smaller and equally sized bashers, stand your ground... against larger foes, footing be damned, you usually aren't going to absorb all of that (at least i don't)... you'll want to position yourself to deflect the impact rather than absorb it...
when the whole line charges... i've noticed that it helps to yell and make an angry face... but that might be just me ;D - Quote :
- If they are smaller or the same size accept their charge by charging back and knock em on their keister
If they are bigger try to side step or roll them off of your shoulder
If its one guy let em through hit em in the back
If its a whole line brace you shield with you leg and shoulder and put the other leg back so you can get leverage off of it,hope you have a guy behind you bracing you and they wont get through. - Quote :
- In my experience, people only full-on shield bash, with the face of the shield, if they have larger shields--say, 2x3 foot or bigger. In that case, I just like to kick the shield, or, barring that, throw a knee up. Works like a charm most cases, even against big guys.
The knee thing we call getting "templared" here in Barad'Dun. - Quote :
- Shield bashing is my specialty <3
What if the person is smaller than you?: then lean into it and make them hit a brick wall (you!)
What if the person is around your size?: get low, and be a brick wall. simply put
What if the person is much bigger (or stronger) than you?: Make yourself look like a brick wall, and at the last moment shift your hips to REDIRECT the energy, sending them flying. Or if your a real badass, get low and arch your sheild up to send them over you.
What If only one man out of the line charges?: then put him down really hard.
What if the entire line charges? : then attempt to put them all down really hard - Quote :
- I'm not a huge guy, but I'm not tiny either, 5' 10", 180lbs or so, and I can take and deliver shield bashes with guys a lot bigger than me. But, I find that the best way to deal with one, especially if the guy is bigger, is to wait until they're about 3 feet away, step forward and to the side, hit them in the back, and keep moving forward. Kind of in a diamond pattern. Keeps you alive and on your feet, and they look stupid.
Or just move out of the way and laugh as they run off into the sunset..... You all know how I telegraph just about everything I do, and its pretty embarrassing to run or roll off into the sunset without making a connection. - Quote :
- table top them
Hah! I finally saw this one in action during Goblin horde when, I believe it was Smithy, who was crouched down or legged and sent Heretic over him with the help of his shield. Then the rear rankers (of whom I was one) swarmed a stunned Heretic. We'll call that little nifty move "The Smithy" or "he was Smithied". Konradr | |
