| Long ago the good people of Belegarth talked about implementing guilds. Not much has been done on this front. I would like to submit my proposal to your group. Let us test the following guild system: - Quote :
- Weapon Smithing Guild
In order to advance in each rank, the member must show his/her progress to the highest ranking guild member in the area defined by the Tiers. A vote will be called among the higher ranked guild members. 2/3rds vote in favor equals a rank up. If the person applying for a local rank up is the highest rank, a vote will be put to all local lower ranked guild members. 2/3rds vote in favor equals a rank up. To rank up beyond Rank 6, one must submit his/her achievements to a gathering of the guild members at an event where 3 or more realms are in attendance. A vote can be called if the applicant satisfies the requirements. 2/3rds vote in favor equals a rank up. To achieve Rank 10, a national vote will be called where all Tier 3 and higher guild members will vote based on the criteria. The person will need 2/3rds vote to be accepted.
Each rank will be allowed one blue bead on a string/cord/necklace per rank. This way fellow guild members can distinguish who is in the guild and at what level.
The format of the chart is as follows: To Attain Rank X - DO This. All Arrows will count as half per arrow when a number of items are called upon to be built.
Tier 1 - Apprentice (Local) Rank 0 - Show interest in smithing. Rank 1 - Learn about the basic materials, tools and safety procedures of smithing. Learn basic construction techniques. Rank 2 - Build a passing blue weapon. Tested on the rules governing a passing blue weapon. Rank 3 - Build a passing green weapon or blue/green weapon or shield. Tested on the rules governing a passing green weapon and shields.
Tier 2 - Journeyman (Local) Rank 4 - Build a passing red weapon or red/green weapon. Repair/rebuild 1 blue weapon. Tested on the rules governing a passing red weapon. Optional; Learn advanced construction technique. Rank 5 - Build a passing yellow weapon or yellow/green weapon. Help train Tier 1 guild mates. Tested on the rules governing a passing yellow weapon. Rank 6 - Assist Fellow guild mates in ranking up. Make three passing weapons of any color. (only one shield will be counted) using basic or advanced techniques.
Tier 3 - Expert (Regional) Rank 7 - Pass a test on all rules governing weapons and shields. Show proficiency of advanced techniques by having at least 3 weapons pass at an event where 3 or more realms are in attendance. Help with two weapon checks at multi-realm events. Rank 8 - Learn master building techniques. Help a minimum of 3 people attain Tier 2 status. Serve in at least four weapons checks at multi-realm events. Rank 9 - Show proficiency of master building techniques by having at least 3 weapons pass at an event where 3 or more realms are in attendance. Help at least 5 people attain Tier 2 status. Serve in at least six weapons checks at multi-realm events or head two weapons checks at multi-realm events.
Tier 4 - Master (National) Rank 10 - Exemplary Achievements among the guild, locally and nationally. Swear Oath. Oath: Help all guild members to attain higher rank. Serve as National Guild Officer that is responsible for the changes to the guild structure. ? ? ?

| Thats adorable.
No really in all seriousness I kinda like this idea, it gives some more motivation to become a weapons builder and get involved in the game and be recognized for the skill and effort you've put into your armory and comrad's weapons. | |

| i would be against this. i'm against national rankings and i'm totally against someone being a higher tier" than me when they don't even live in the same town as me. we actually have our own expert smiths. some of the best ive ever seen. they are called the SOB's. The Smithy's of Barad'Dun. they are the ones who judge quality in our realm. maybe next time your around they can check your stuff out. | |

| your comment doesn't make any sense. Lording over someone because you have more knowledge or experience, it happens regardless of a set ranking or not. The guild's first object would be to promote smithing. If smithing isn't your cup of tea, then don't enter it. Once in the guild, you would be learning how to make your own equipment, something that most people do anyway, and then helping to advance people's smithing abilities and promoting the advancment of smithing technology, which happens already. The guild idea acts as encouragement to improve your smithing. | |

| The only time I've ever seen anything like this is within specific realms that have rankings such as this for their roleplay. I'm not really feeling it if you have to be in the guild to attain recognition for something that you do on a regular basis. If you could still smith and not be in the guild then that's fine. I feel it would add more uniformity to the whole organization, and take away the diverse aspect of foamsmithing. | |

| I only lord over someone when i don't like them. The S.O.B's is our little thing we do and we ask for help with weapons and all that fun stuff. You said it yourself the guild is to encourage, but this is already being done so making a guild would be redundant and maybe even dicourage. | |

| We have a system set up and it works quite well. The S.O.B.'s are a service to the realm. They could be considered a guild but they don't have any special titles or rank structure. It is a collective group who willingly share their knowledge for the betterment of the Realm. They build to a set standard (which is high) and as such have been given the additional responsibility of checking weapons. Additionally we have weapons checkers who are not S.O.B.'s. The qualifiers for becoming an S.O.B. are in place and known, but just in case they have been forgotten:
1. Knowledge of how to check weapons and shields.
2. (And this one is a doozy) Present a passible weapon of each class (ie red, blue, polearm, archery, green)
That's it. But within the afore mentioned the individual has already expressed a desire to build, will have more than likely asked questions of someone in the Realm as to how to construct whatever it is they're building, and by meeting these guildlines- er I mean guidelines, they will have proven to their peers and to themselves that anyone really can build a weapon.
We do not need an official guild to prove weapons of worth. We do that with a collective effort naturally so there is no need for one. The S.O.B.'s just ensure the standards.
NUFF SAID.

| Weapons Build Day > Weapons Build Guild Nuff Said That last builds day we had was the greatest thing to happen to Barad'Dun's foamsmithing/weapons inventory. | |
