Weapon Build - April 9th or 10th?

After speaking with Smithy a few weeks ago about having a build day in his garage the second week of April, I figured we'd get something announced so it's not too last minute. The build day will be for our guys to fix their equipment and make new swords/shields if you need to. I know there are plenty of cores running around that have been pulled off stripped swords so we can get those built up and out on the field.

The main question is do we want to have the build day Saturday or Sunday? We could cancel the fighting practice and head over to Smithy's garage for the day instead, or we can do it that Sunday after. (The 10th.)

For those who are coming to the build day to build weapons, but arent planning on buying your own foam or core, there will be lots of core material and foam for you to use, but please bring a few bucks to give to the realm since the leaders and other builders are going to be chipping in for most of the foam that is there. (Galaxy foam, 2 yards of cut Valora at 1.25" is $30, that's a lot of swords).

What do you guys think?


(Smithy has a bandsaw so if you need to cut your PVC cores, bandshoppe, or cut foam strips you can.)

i like the thought of doing it for practice that way more people in my belief will show up. thinking it's practice AND we could possibly get more stuff done but either or... i'm glad we're having one!

In the end it's Smithy's call, but to get some input from everyone would be great I agree Kitty, more people!

we got our garage cleaned out so we should be able to host one in mine soon after we finish renavating the bathroom

The build place has been changed back to Heretic's house, the same as the first weapon build we had a few months back.

everyone know that it is WEAPONS BUILD not a DRINKING PARTY!

It will probably start around noon, we'll have to ask Heretic.

I and my brother will come over early to clean-up/move stuff around at Heretic's place for the weapons build. I'll clarify with Heretic on Saturday when he wants us there to do that on Sunday. I have a lot of cloth to donate that day and to add to the realm coffers (if possible for me that day) for people having provided foam/cores, etc. I think I have a hollow fiberglass core to donate as well.

Taco has a couple cores from people who wanted him to rebuild their stuff. He stripped down Shadow's core from the bulky sword Rilith gave him, and a couple other swords/maces that needed to be rebuilt are stripped down and ready to be made into new swords. I might bind some driveway markers on Saturday and have Taco help me box them so people can build swords of them or we'll make loaners.

If you aren't bringing any core/foam to contribute to build weapons, it'd be very helpful to the realm if you brought $2-$5 to help pay for the 2+ yards of valora and blue foam everyone is donating. You can give donations to Heretic, Smithy, or Demie.

If you come to the build day you will definitely leave with a weapon.

Cans of DAP, duct tape, camp pad, and other various build materials are appreciated if you can bring.

We'll have some PVC cores for some of the newer people to build weapons on even if they can't donate a couple bucks.

I can come for part of the day. I'll see what supplies I can bring to the surface between now and then.

Depending on the pipe, we may be able to use it. We can give you some direction on what to do with the shield.

There are lots of people who can help you build weapons. I recommend looking at some of the tutorials on the wiki before the build so you aren't relying on everyone else and have a general idea of how the basic weapon is built.

We can give you some good tips on glueing and binding the foam so it won't come loose for a long time, we want good long lasting weapons.

Dwyna, here's the link to the google map that was posted last time they had a weapon's build at Heretic's house. The directions are given from desert breeze to Heretic's house for orientation.

Great build guys, glad to see so many people leaving with weapons and foam smithery. Time to test out everyone's new kit(s) on the field next practice.
